The mini-series is based on the tragic events of the spring of 1993, when residents of the Mount Carmel ranch were suspected of illegally storing weapons. During the roundup, a shootout ensued, which led to an armed confrontation between sectarians and FBI agents, which lasted 51 days. During the siege, 82 members of the sect died, including Koresh himself, as well as 4 federal agents.
