Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) loses his family. His wife and daughter are brutally killed during a house robbery. When the killers are found, the case is assigned to a young and assertive assistant prosecutor, Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx). After several legal mistakes, Nick, under pressure from his superiors, makes a deal with one of the suspects. He testifies against his accomplices in exchange for a light sentence. Ten years pass. A convicted murderer is found dead, and Clyde Shelton confesses to his murder. Shelton warns Rice: either he will do something about the flawed justice system that has destroyed his family, or key people in that system will start dying.
